Raid stands for “Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks”, and consists of 6 possible variations. However we are only interested in option 1 here. Whenever data is written to the disc it is written to two (or more) discs in parallel, this sometimes called “disc mirroring”.This means if one disc fails, the other can take over without stopping the system. The failing disc can then be replaced when convenient, and the software will restore the data.
